Beauty & The Gist

The age old quest for beauty has only intensified in this generation, with unprecedented breakthroughs in beauty procedures and treatments made commercially available. Over the years, wo

men or the entire feminine gender have been at the forefront of this quest for the perfect body shape, skin, hair, facial features…..the list is endless.

In Nigeria, the story is no different, with the elite spending whooping amounts of money to bleach/tone their skins to the “perfect colour”, hair extensions, semi-permanent make-up procedures etc.

Enter the male species!

Pre “Jet age” our men were content to be “ruggedly handsome”, hard men, etc, etc, but the story has changed, breeding a generation of “pretty boys” with hairdresser appointments, sideburn carving, eyebrow waxing, skin bleaching, hair extensions, the whole works! Is this normal? Acceptable? Or just plain stupid! Is this a fall out of the quest for perfection in the entertainment industry? Do the fans really care? Or are they just concerned with the quality of music produced and released into the market by their favorite icons.

Do they want to see the multiple “Bling” strands weighing their necks down?

Do they love the saggy pants, sometimes to obscene standards where we have to make do with seeing their underwear?

Do they have a problem with seeing their fav’ artistes changing skin colour as often as they change their clothes?

So I ask this question: What do you think?
